What is the TSA lock for and how is it used?
How many times, when buying a suitcase, are we then forced to buy a lock to prevent it from being opened easily? And how often do these locks turn out to be less than reliable?
So, most of our suitcases feature a TSA combination lock, meaning a combination of numbers. But what does a TSA lock mean? TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration , the United States government agency responsible for transportation security established after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Under current security laws, U.S. customs authorities are authorized to inspect baggage in transit. If the baggage is protected by a lock or padlock of any kind, it could be forced open to verify its contents.
Safety and passenger rights
How can we reconcile the need for security checks with passengers' right to have their bags protected? The answer to this problem was found with the creation of TSA locks. These can be integrated into the suitcase itself with a zipper lock system, or present on a padlock called a "TSA" lock.
How do I set the combination on my lock?
